Feliz Navidad!
We have often taken a little Christmas cheer south of the border to friends in Ensenada. This year it was their turn to visit Temecula and we were thrilled to host 14 members of the Iglesia Roca de Salvacion to a potluck fiesta at the minstry center. Brittany Beckley lead worship with a little help from Grant and Anna. It was so good to see Pastor Candy & Agelica, along with their family. Ed insisted that we play a modified version of Bunko which sounded a little "unChristmas" until he explained the rules and we discovered that the Prize basket was full and everyone was going to "win" something.

Mark 9:30-50Good News for Leaders
After the Transfiguration on the Mount, Peter James and John had seen Jesus in a new light. Their excitement caught on with the crowds as Jesus heals a deaf and dumb boy.
If the Transfiguration is the "high point" of Mark then the chapters that follow are the reentry into the real world as Jesus heads for Jerusalem and the trials that await.
On the way the disciples are swept up in what looks like a building of momentum in their group of followers and new insight into who Jesus is. If he is really the "Messiah" promised in the scriptures then there are preparations to make an organization to build and a team captain to pick.
Jesus uses this opportunity to continue to help to prepare them for the reality they face. He continues to tell them the truth about the suffering the messiah must endure and the real cost of leadership in the coming kingdom. He also turns up the fire on his leadership training program. In these 20 verses we learn:
- What is important to God
- Priorities for leaders
- Values in God's Kingdom
- The importance of decisiveness
- What Kind of Leadership God rewards
While the 12 apostles did not really seem to get the point we have the benefit of their example and the opportunity to prosper from these lessons as leaders in our families, our workplaces, our classrooms and play yards.
